Echoes of Eternity

Echoes of Eternity at London Coliseum

Why see Echoes of Eternity?

Part of the 2016 Shanghai season!

As part of Shanghai season at the London Coliseum this year, the Shanghai Ballet Company present their celebrated romantic tragedy that explores the themes of love and loss. Based on the eighth-century Tang dynasty poem The Song of Everlasting Regret, we watch a love affair blossom between Emperor Ming and his favourite courtesan Lady Yang until conflict and eventual tragedy leads to their downfall, and that of his kingdom.

Choreographed by Patrick de Bana, the soundtrack selected comprises a stunning mix of works by the likes of Henryk Gorecki, Armand Amar, film composer Philip Glass and Kodo. The story was translated for the ballet by celebrated French librettist Jean Francois Vazelle, with costumes designed by former Paris Opera principal dancer Agnes Letestu, making this a truly international production!
