McQueen at Theatre Royal Haymarket

Why see McQueen?

west end transfer

A poignant tribute to the late fashion designer and darling of the catwalk world, McQueen is part-fantasy play, part-biopic that is inspired by a 2008 anecdote he gave about his garden's elm tree. Written by James Phillips (The Little Fir Tree, The Rubinstein Kiss, Hidden in the Sand), and directed by John Caird.

After a try out at St James Theatre earlier this year, the show will see some re-writes and an added interval. Stephen Wright returns as the man himself, with Carly Bawden as Dahilia (in the role originated by Glee's Dianna Agron. Tracey Ann Oberman also returns as Isabella Blow and Michael Bertenshaw joins as Mr Hitchcock.

The re-worked production promises to be a must see for Alexander McQueen fans from all walks of life.

AN ODE TO A MUCH-MISSED FASHION GIANT

Combining elements from his catwalk shows as well as choreographed sequences, this is a fantastical insight into one of the most creative minds to work in London fashion - including his inner demons.

Set during one night in London, a young girl who has watched the designer's house from the safety of a nearby tree finally plucks up the courage to break into his house to steal a dress - just so that she can feel special. Caught in the act by McQueen himself, instead of calling the police, the pair embark on a magical adventure that takes us into the dark, enigmatic dream world of the much-beloved artist.
