Clarkston

Clarkston hints that some of our most instructive relationships may be the most transitory. That's one of the beautiful discoveries in Hunter's small, absorbing and ultimately uplifting play.

Why see Clarkston?
Starring Joe Locke
Swapping sixth-form drama for Costco's checkout lanes, Heartstopper's Emmy Award-winning Joe Locke isn't shy when it comes to stories of friendship and love. He now makes his West End debut this autumn in the UK premiere of Clarkston, an intimate, gut-wrenching play by Drama Desk winner and BAFTA nominee Samuel D. Hunter - best known for 2012's The Whale, which later won Brendan Fraser an Oscar when adapted for film.
Official dates and venue are yet to be confirmed.
What's The Story?
Two young men - Jake and Chris - cross paths while working the late shift at a Costco in present-day Clarkston, Washington. Jake, an intense and strangely cheerful young man, claims to be a distant descendant of explorer William Clark and is battling juvenile Huntington's disease. Chris, a reserved aspiring writer with a fraught relationship with his mother Trisha, dreams of escaping his small-town life through education. As the two men develop a friendship and emotional connection, the play explores whether their shared vulnerability and dreams are enough to help them find new meaning in their lives.
