Eurotrash

There's something bracing about the narrator's pained awareness that if there's such a thing as the wrong side of history, he and his family are firmly on it.

One Could Influence Not Only the Future, but the Past as Well
Starring Kathryn Hunter and Ben Whishaw, Walter Meierjohann directs this epic drama adaptation of Christian Kracht’s deeply moving, acclaimed novel. Eurotrash explores the complicated bond between a parent and child, and the struggle to confront a strained relationship as an unsettling history rears its head. Showing as part of the Young Vic 2026/2027 season!
What's The Story?
A struggling novelist is suddenly called to Zurich by his chaotic, ageing mother, a larger-than-life presence prone to vodka, pills, and a taste for designer everything. What starts as an awkward reunion quickly turns into something far more reckless: her wild plan to give away the fortune she’s built through questionable deals and Europe’s complicated past. With stacks of cash shoved into a plastic bag, they set off across Switzerland - winding through snowy mountains and picture-perfect towns. But soon, it becomes clear this journey is about much more than just passing down a fortune.
