WOW!

I found this show amazing and will definately go to see it again. I first saw it at the Aldwych Theatre in London with girlfriends and was totally loving every moment of it. I had goose bumps from start to finish and although it wasnt exactly the same as the film what with all the added scenes and new music but i had seen the film so I was looking for something different and I wasnt dissapointed. An amazing cast, choreography and perfect music makes for an excellent nights entertainment.

BEST SHOW IN AGES.*****TOP RATING

Absolutely fantastic show, loved every minute of it. My mum and I did not want it to end. Theatre was small, view was great even though not much space. Every artist so full of talent, just fab. Would see again and again. Loved the film, loved the show, A+.

AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE OF DIRTY DANCING

I watched the performance of Dirty Dancing at the Aldwych theatre on April 7th and I must say it was spectacular, I enjoyed it very much along with my friends and we would reccomend it to anyone, it is very enjoyable indeed. The casting and choreographing was excellent. They really put across the real meaning of the story with amazing casting and brilliand, sexy dancing, just like the real thing! There's never a dull moment throughout the performance with the talented actors and actresses! This is a spectacular performance and highly reccomended!

ABSOLUTLEY FANTASTIC

This was amazing. Would go again before it closes. (hopefully that won't be for a while) Couldn't think how they were going to do the water 'lift' but it was really fabulous how they worked it. Won't say anymore for those of you yet to see it. Even though they are doing scene changes while your watching you don't seem to notice because of all the stuff going on. Watch out for the old ladies at the end. They were hilarious. Theatre was a little on the small side but that won't stop the enjoyment of a brilliant show.

AMAZING!

one of the best shows, no the best show i've seen. it was so good how they managed to fit the surroundings from the film on a stage. i thought watching the film was good, seeing it live on stage was so much better, i could go again and again!

AMAZING

I thought this production was excelllent. I liked the fact that the theatre was not huge, it meant that the majority of people could see. The baby we had was abosolutely amazing!! she looked like her, sounded like it. Although the guy who played Johny was a fab dancer had a great body, I felt he sounded a bit scripted, but then again, no one can compare to patrick!! Looking forward to going again. Recommend it to all dirty dancing fans!!!

FANTASTIC - MUST SEE

Great show went with my daughter who is also a fan, faithful to the film, scenery changes were brill! Dancing fantastic (how do they keep up the stamina needed) As good as swayze and how could you not forget that line 'nobody puts babe in a corner' the audience went wild!!

FANTASTIC MUST SEE SHOW!!

An Amazing show. I went to Aldwych Theatre London yesterday with two sisters that saw the performance last year & our Mum. Theatre nice & small, you could pre-order & pay for drinks ready for the interval so less queues. We found two toilets on our way in & the second one we didn't have to queue. During the interval it seemed most people queued.....but you can have TEN toilets/bars when your out & you'd have a queue!!! Cast, scenery & changes, dances/actors where all brill!! Like many fans I've watched the film several times but seeing it live was just fantastic... WOW!!! A must see for any fan. A fab day out.

REALLY IMPRESSED

I went with a friend who had been bought tickets for a birthday present. I had seen the film but wasnt a huge fan. I have to say that the show was absolutely fantastic. It was a matinee and knowing that they had to do the same show a couple of hours later I didnt think they would put so much energy into it.There was a fantastic atmosphere in the theatre and the dancing and singing were fab. Not a famous name in sight and they didnt need one! Thoroughly recommend it. Theatre seats are cramped though and toilets dreadful which I felt was very complacent and considering the number of tourists that go to the theatre downright disgusting.

AMAZING SHOW

Have seen the show twice in the last couple of months. The new cast is superb. It is an excellent transfer of the film to stage. The scenery sets and lighting are also excellent. We have been lucky to see both Hannah Vassalo and Dominique Provost-Chalkley as Baby, and prefer the latter although both are very convincing in the role. Johnny Wrights dancing is superb too, but the revelation for us was Ray Quinn, whose acting and particularly singing were brilliant. His rendition of "Still of the Night" was wonderful as was his duet in "Time of My Life". The supporting roles were also extremely good, particularly Nadia Coote as Penny. We also love this theatre and the atmosphere was buzzing. Would thoroughly recommend the show.

DIRTY DANCING

Fantastic !! An amazing show with all the great music, scenery and dancing, a real feel good show. Went Feb 14th 09 with my husband who i think was a bit sceptical but found it fantastic. Would throughly recommend it and love to see it again but even though Harvey was great as Johnny nobody will ever match the brilliant Swayze.

THEATRE IN GENERAL

I came to London for the Matinee performance of Dirty Dancing, this was a Christmas present from one of my children, and I had looked forward to the show since then. I have to say I was very disappointed with the seating & the toilets at the theatre. We sat in the upper circle row D 3 & 4 and although the view was fine, the seats are so cramped I could hardly straighten my leg's in the interval, it really was that uncomfortable & I am not a tall person. The other thing was the queueing at the toilets in the interval, I had to go back to my seat without even going because there was around ten people still in front of me. The toilets were really not very clean either and were quite smelly. I really didn't expect this in a theatre in London, and was very disappointed, I would think that all the money that is taken you should be looking into these matters.

DANCING DIRTY - GREAT FUN!

Enjoyed this! There is always a danger in translating film to the stage, expectations can be high. I could only recollect parts of the film and perhaps that helped. The storyline was easy to pick up and the characters well played, with the exception of Johnny, sorry, but I could not stop picturing PS in my mind! Could have been more big singing numbers. The dancing was fantastic, agile, elastic, spectacular, but that's what the show is about is'nt it? Dancing ... The 'lift' at the end was highly anticipated and was not a disappointment. Only complaint was the audience, there was a lot of unnecessary sniggering and giggles, especially in the love scenes, which spoilt it for me. The Aldwcyh is fabulous and never understand why some people/tourists complain about toilets and leg room in a theatre that is over 100 years old. It's part of the whole theatre-going experience in London, go to the Imax if you want modern day comfort! Went to the Waldorf Hotel for drinks before and after show.

DISSAPOINTING

one of the main characters baby was a dissapointment she lacked oomph on performing skills, not asd goodas the film certainly have seen better.

I LOVE CANDY

if you want to see the movie, exactly the same thing, you're not going to be disappointed...the problem is that we would love to see all the songs performed in live and the missing "be my baby" is really disappointing. The cast is great and some choreographies are amazing but i missed something during the show, a soul. The last scene with "the time of my life" is amazing! anyway, we can feel that it's more or less all about money, nothing compared to the producers , chicago, the drowsy chaperone or 42nd street!

2.5 star rating Martin from London

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION

As the 'Management' did nothing to quell the brash enthusiasm from several of those sitting behind me I can only say they must encourage it. Singing along to the songs whooping and yelling ,clapping to the music, these fishwives completely negated any chance I had to appreciate the performance, esp the dancing..as for the stupid wailing and shreeking when the bedroom scene came on..well, I can only think these sad women have no lives !

DISAPPOINTING

A very poor first half with no atmosphere but improved in the second half of the show

2.0 star rating Louise from Berkshire

GREAT SHOW DISAPOINTING THEATRE

a great show, would have been better to have the songs and all the lyrics, not just instrumentals for some of the songs. however my enjoyment of the show was ruined by the lousy theatre, my view was really restricted (with second price seats i did not expect this) and the staff had major attitude problems, treating the audience like football hooligans, very rude! a really disapoining memory of what could have been a great show.

PEDESTRIAN

Personally, I would have cut my losses and left this performance at the interval to go and enjoy what was left of my evening elsewhere, my family who are all fans of the movie wanted to give it more time to warm up. It was certainly better in the second half, but in reality only the final "Time of my life" created the usual west end passion between the performers and the audience I think the truth is that the show is too weak to stand on its own without a real celebrity in the main part The humour fell flat, really flat, I felt sorry for the actors as you could almost see the tumble weed blowing accross the stage at some points. The lines were sometimes garbled and often lost against the background music, and the characters were not given any dimension in their own right-you have to know them from the film. So-if you are a big, BIG fan of the film maybe its ok for you, but I would not go in anticipation of the big "high" you get from other West End shows

DIRTY DANCING REVIEW

I took my wife to see Dirty Dancing at the Aldwych last week for our 20th anniversary since its her favorite film of all time. The technical production of the show and scene changes is excellent with very clever use of backgound film. The singing and dancing was excellent. Although we enjoyed the night, there were some critisisms that seem to be echoed elsewhere since the cast change in Sept 2009. The actress Baby was fantastic and evry bit of her film character. Johnny, however sported an iritating american accent and shouted most of his lines angrily which, at times, turned me against the character which was disturbing. His performance was very wooden although he is an excellent dancer. As a result, the production lacked the vital chemistry between Johnny and Baby in the film and created a bit of an anti-climax.

JUST OK

Went with my 2daughters aged 16 and14 and we had front row seats also the cheapest but did have extra leg room ,not the best show we have seen and glad we didn't pay more than what we did the dancing is good but the acting is poor ,

SUPERB DANCING, TERRIBLE ACTING

This amateurish production is something you would expect to see from a secondary school play. Johnny was a superb dancer, but he was just that- a dancer, not an actor. His character was less than flat and at times, if it wasn’t because he forgot his lines, the pauses were longer than necessary and awkward. The intensity between Johnny and Baby lacked luster and felt like two teenagers with braces trying to kiss each other for the first time. Finally, the production was a poor attempt to recreate the movie, using the same dialogue and scenes, and nothing extra. I would have been happier to have stayed home, saved some money, and just watched the movie again.

CERTAINLY NOT A SHOW STOPPER

I was more than disappointed with Dirty Dancing. Firstly, they tried to 'copy' the film onstage, which did not work. Secondly, the dancers (who were all fantastic) were just that - dancers and did not act out their roles with any emotion or feeling. It was as if they were fed up. The second half seemed to have a lot more life and did pick up, but overall the worst westend show I have seen and will not be rushing back!

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY - NOT AS GOOD AS THE MOVIE OR THE DVD

The stage musical Dirty Dancing was not as good as the movie. The stage Baby Houseman did not come close to reprising Jennifer Grey's classic performance nor did the perfomance of the stage Johnny Castle approach the great performance of Patrick Swayze. The quality of the stage Dr. Houseman and Max Kellerman were nowhere near the movie performances of Jerry Orbach and Jack Weston. The seats we purchased were the most expensive seats in the theatre, but they did not have adequate legroom and were so uncomfortable that my wife had to move to another seat on the aisle which was uncomfortable. I expressed our need for adequate legroom to the seller at the theatre box office. She assured us that there was adequate room but she would not let us examine the seats. The management refused to make good on the misrepresentation. CAVEAT EMPTOR-BUYER BEWARE I SUGGEST THE YOU GET THE DVD WHICH IS NOW IN BLU-RAY AND THE SOUNDTRACK RATHER THAN SPENDING THE MONEY ON THE STAGE PERFORMANCE.

TERRIBLE

I wouldn't waste ure money, unfortunately I had too! Probably one of the worst show's i have seen in the west end. And as a musicals fan i was really looking forward to this show, as i was a fan of the movie! The Highly trained cast are serverly let down, by the poor script and lack of humour, if there was any it was lost in translation. If ure expecting to see a musical you'll be very dissapointed. This is no musical. I would have loved to see the lead characters actually sing something! Don't get me wrong the dancers are amazing, but there is no adaptation here. If ure a fan of the movie, stick to watching that! I haven't bought myself to watch it since!

DISAPPOINTMENT

What a disappointment! So, so cheesy! As a dirty dancing fan, I have waited so long to see this and felt truly let down! It has no atmosphere or chemistry in the characters that you expect from this story. It I'd definantly missing that West End magic! I took my daughter who is 22 as her first West End experience and frankly felt embarrased!

DREADFUL. FLAT, UNINSPIRING, WOODEN. AMATEURISH.

Soooo disappointing, I couldn’t believe it could be so bad! I was a bit far back to be sure but it looked and sounded like they were miming to pre-recordings. The dancing was good but the stage felt too big for the limited no. of cast.

1.0 star rating Ricardo Hoddini from Bexley , England

ABSOLUTE GARBAGE

What a waste of time and money . Shockingly bad acting and very few songs of any credibility. Boring from start to finish . Don’t go
