Why See Statues?
The Secret Rapper
Yusuf is an English teacher grappling with the recent loss of his father, Mustafa. But stumbling upon an old mixtape changes everything he knew about his quiet dad. Far from the reserved man Yusuf knew, the Mustafa of the 90s was an aspiring rapper, spitting bars about life in Kilburn and dreaming of musical success with Omar, his best mate.
Not simply a tale of personal revelation, Statues is also a celebration of artistry and the resilience of a generation. Both written and performed by award-winner Azan Ahmed, it's a play which captures the essence of what we inherit and the transformative power of discovering the true past.
