THE GHOST OF SIR JOHN GILEGUD!
On Friday 8th May, I attended and greatly enjoyed Alan Benett's play "Enjoy" at the Gielgud Theatre. David Troughton did his best to continue, but eventually had to give up due to to an irritating noise permeating the auditorium. The performance had to be suspended for about 10 minutes. What was it? The ghost of Sir John Gielgud trying to upstage the actors? The Front of House Manager offered no explanation to the audience which left us all very curious and guessing what it could be!

MIXED FEELINGS
I've got mixed feelings about this play. Sometimes it was laugh-out-loud funny. Other times I found it a bit patronising. Alison Steadman and David Troughtman are excellent: great characters, great acting. Carol Macready as the next-door neighbour Mrs Clegg is also very good - a perfect Alan Bennett character. But the daughter's character was so exaggeratedly awful it made me cringe, and her accent was all over the place. Utterly unconvincing. For me, that took the shine off the production. I'd probably recommend it, if only to see Alison Steadman, but don't go into it with high expectations, because I'm not sure it will live up to them.
