First performed in London at the Lyric theatre in 1973, English Author Alan Bennett's Habeas Corpus enjoys a hotly anticipated revival at the Menier Chocolate Factory this summer. The hijinks-laden farce is a not-to-be-missed whirlwind of mistaken identity and mismanaged lust, all brought together by the author's unmistakable blend of warmth, humanity and razor-sharp wit.
Set in Brighton in the 60s, the comedy of ill-manners finds its characters primarily ruled by the passions of the body. It follows the antics of Dr. Arhtur Wicksteed, the Wicksteed brood, his patient Felicity Rumpers, the salesman Mr. Shanks and a cleaning lady called Mrs. Swabb, amongst other memorable characters, as they lust after one another with hilarious results. Be prepared, trousers will drop!
