MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT AT ITS VERY BEST

My wife and I saw this wonderfully fun filled uplifting show today and we love love loved it. The energy the cast put in to ensure you enjoy their show is inspiring, they give their all. The music, musicians and the vocals ( both solo and harmonies ) are awe inspiring. If you get the opportunity to go, don't hesitate or you will regret it.

OUTSTANDING

Brilliant night in Glasgow. Cast were outstanding throughout. All voices were strong and upbeat. People need to remember this is how the group formed at the beginning not the film. Get ready to dance the night away 🥰

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC

Having seen a different production of The Committments in Cardiff a few years ago - it was awful from start to finish !!. I must admit it was with trepidation that I came to see this production. WOW, what a difference between the two. The show was slick and flowed really well. The dialogue was clear and not shouted. And the music ......AMAZINGLY GOOD. Each person could sing, their voices blended together in a sumptuous way, making the songs buzz with the same energy as the original recordings. No one person was better than the other, they ALL were brilliant. The audience were eating out of their hands by the end, giving a rapturous applause for 10 minutes. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this show.

WONDERFUL NIGHT AT THE OPERA HOUSE MANCHESTER

We received these tickets as a Christmas present back in 2020 & we finally got to see the show tonight. Yes it was well worth the wait. The cast are exceptional, they had the theatre rocking with all of our favourite songs. The quality of the acting & singing was outstanding & the musical arrangements superb. If you’re looking for brilliant night out look no further.

FAMILY NIGHT OUT

Mum & Dad (61 & 56), took 3 children & their husband/partners, plus a nephew and wife (ages ranging from 43 - 21). Everyone had a great night, the classic tunes struck a chord with all of us. Not many shows that everyone can go to and enjoy - but The Commitments ticked every box.

A LIGHT-HEARTED MUSICAL WITH HITS THAT ARE FULL OF SOUL

What is the plot of The Commitments? Jimmy is no longer interested in his job at a sweet factory. As a result he decides to form a band to create music that is targeted at the working class people of Dublin. The band starts off with just two of his friends. This results in Jimmy holding a series of auditions in order to put a band together. This is where the Commitments are born. This production gives an insight into the highs and lows of the Commitments’ journey to success. This includes exams, religion, Eurovision, the possible split and the broken nose. What themes are explored in The Commitments? The themes that are explored in The Commitments are friendship, love, fame, success, jealousy, music, family and unity. Cast Ronnie Yorke was brilliant as Mickah. He had a great stage presence and was charismatic. His comedic timing was second to none. His attention to detail was spot on. Ben Morris was superb as Deco. His vocal range was flawless. He has bags of potential. He is a talent to watch. James Killeen plays the role of Jimmy with ease and gusto. His dry humour is what gives the show a realistic touch. His dreams of becoming famous with the band comes across brilliantly to the audience. We also see his softer side especially with his on screen dad (Nigel Pivaro). Nigel Pivaro as the dad was full of emotion. This is particularly the case when he shows appreciation for his son Jimmy and how proud he is of everything that he has achieved. They are a great partnership on stage and their chemistry is infectious to watch. Ciara Mackey, Sarah Gardiner and Eve Kitchingman were incredible as the backing singers. They were strong, feisty, and full of sass. They sang their hearts off and their harmonies were off the scale. Stuart Reid was full of charm and wit as Joey The Lips. He provides moments of light relief and he is a charmer yes being romantic with all 3 backing singers. He makes the role his own. This cast is a talented bunch who all have great chemistry with each other. Their work rate was amazing all together as a team regardless of how big or small their roles were. It was a credit to watch. Script The script is so relatable, funny and warm where you feel as if you are watching a couple of friends at the pub making fun of each other. There are great witty moments such as Deco sorting out his junk whilst standing there with nothing but his Y-fronts. Another moment is where he puts his finger around his belly button and then sniffing his finger. These are some of the moments in which the audience laughed out loud. Sets Tim Blazdell’s set design is a fascinating one. It is simple but effective. There are a number of doors on the lower level which show Jimmy and his dad’s living room with stairs that go to Jimmy’s bedroom. A change of lighting turns it into a club balcony. The multiple doors show a variety of different locations including Joey’s garage where the band rehearse, a bar and a butchers. The use of props added a magic touch to the production. This included the sweet factory canteen table and a butchers uniform. In addition having numerous locations simultaneously helped in speeding the pace of the show. Soundtrack What makes this production a hit is the soundtrack which is full of rock and roll in addition to soul. It is full of amazing songs sung by legends including the likes of Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger, Mack Rice, and Jimmy Ruffin. The highlights were Signed, Sealed and Delivered, I Heard It Through The Crapevine, Mustang Sally, I Can’t Get No Satisfaction, and River Deep Mountain High. They added energy and vitality to this production. The finale was a mini concert where you could sing, dance, clap, and wear your hair down to these amazing songs. This gave positive vibes meaning that you would leave the auditorium with a big smile on your face. If you love a show with a talented cast, a good story and showstopping hits then The Commitments is the show for you.

DISAPPOINTING

Edinburgh, Monday 28th November. Really looking forward to this musical/concert but was a little underwhelmed. The great tunes were cut down versions and I’m convinced the musicians were nit playing live - indeed I’d bet my house on it. Wonderful singers, very lively but, for me, a weak and stuttering story.

3.0 star rating Mary from Glasgow,

NOT AS GOOD AS ANTICIPATED

The start was too slow, and the storyline was a bit jumbled. Not enough songs from the sound track. The singing was great though!

THE COMMITMENTS

So excited beforehand & so deflated when we left.... :-( Sorry but the cast are good but underwhelming. Where's 'a star?' And just too young & inexperienced cast. Strong voices from all :-)

2.0 star rating Josef from Glasgow,

DISAPPOINTING

Slow to start, the dialogue from the film didn’t transfer well to this production. Was really looking forward to this show and felt underwhelmed by it. First half was tragic, 2nd slightly better I think….😕

THE COMMITMENTS BRISTOL SHOW - BEWARE! NOT LIKE THE FILM!

Good performance but if your a big fan of the film it might disappoint! Didn't understand why they had a man undress in front of the curtain half way through the show, like a strip tease?? and the big songs were missed from the last big scene???? The show then finished and the curtains dropped, only to have someone come out (like a pantomime) asking the audience if they want more???? And then they sang the big songs as if they just generally performing and not in a show? If your aware of this then maybe it will not disappoint?! But I was disappointed!

TONIGHT IN LIVERPOOL

Sound quality was really poor in the 1st half. Felt dated and wished I’d stayed at home and watched the film. End medley saved the day …. But only just.

1.0 star rating Harriet from Liverpool,

DISAPPOINTING

Couldn’t hear the cast speaking through most of it. First half was awful and second half not much better. I was glad we hadn’t bought the tickets as a lot of money to lose. I came out at the end not knowing what the plot was about and had to have a look. We noticed that people did leave part way though. Only good thing was the cast could sing and some very powerful voices.
