SWAN LAKE ~ EMPIRE THEATRE, LIVERPOOL

The greatest romantic ballet of all time is brought to life by Tchaikovsky’s music ~ Swan Lake. Mesmerising, the dancing took my breath away. Orchestra magnificent, fulfilled my dream truly, madly oh so deeply 💯% from Liverpool with Love 👌🌹👍

MESMERISING

In the first scenes I was focusing on the dancing in awe of the dancers abilities & the choreography. By the time I got to the swans dancing I was less aware of individual dancers as the swans seemed to glide back and forth across the stage which was breathtaking. I’ve read some professional reviews where the reviewer criticised the scenery & the costumes, personally I think they were missing the point. The performance hinges on great dancing & music & that is exactly what we got. I think the problem with professional reviewers is that they can’t immerse themselves in the experience as a whole.

Looking at some of the comments I’m totally shocked . All 3 performances were outstanding the costumes the back drop . I feel they play with so much emotion and flawless . They are totally dedicated and it shows Thankyou varda see you in 2025 .

NEW BALLET FAN

This is the 4th time I have seen this company. My husband and I are not ballet aficionados but have become lovers of ballet after seeing this company. I have nothing to compare them with, but to me the whole experience was enjoyable from start to finish.

VARNA SWAN LAKE BUXTON OPERA HOUSE

Lovely performance. Thank you dancers.

ENJOYABLE

Not up to the technical standard of the bigger name companies, and the backdrop graphics were really not good, but still very enjoyable overall. Ending not clear. Where were the 32 fouettés?

3.0 star rating Soooo from Bristol, England

GOOD PRINCIPALS

Loved the principals but corps a bit tatty at times. Main issue was orchestral playing.. Dull & just nowhere near vibrant or exciting enough. Odd speeds. Poor tuning at times. Let it Sing Out more.!

3.0 star rating David & Anna from Bath, England

DISAPPOINTED

He & she were good, but overall a rather lacklustre performance, too many gaps n errors, sloppy playing by most of band, dull set & costumes, apart from swans. Sorry cos they must be exhausted on that schedule!

3.0 star rating Susan Farnworth from Preston

LACKLUSTRE PERFORMANCE

I see Swan Lake every year and this is first time I've seen varna. The set was non existent so rather boring. Company were good but just lacklustre in general

3.0 star rating Annie Murphy from Blackpool

IT WAS ALRIGHT... BUT

Never in my 45 years, having seen numerous performances have I seen members of a live orchestra sat there with wooly hats, big coats and miserable faces on them. I’m no expert but the music was average to say the least, in fact the musicians look like they couldn’t be bothered. The set was dull and at times made no sense. Overall, whilst the principle dancers were very good, the whole thing came across as a rehearsal. The company are all very very young and it felt like we were watching a good end of year dance school performance but not a professional production. It was overpriced for what you got. Sorry.

2.0 star rating Lucy from Basingstoke, England

DISAPPOINTED

Totally agree with some of the previous reviews above. The principals were good, but the corps were sloppy and made some noticeable errors, the set was basic and overall the performance was a little lacklustre. The orchestra had some timing and tuning issues and again seemed sloppy. This was certainly nowhere near the standard of other professional ballet company productions I have been to.

2.0 star rating Valentina from Bristol

SLOPPY

So many visible errors in timing, symmetry, technique. I am only an amateur dancer, and if I keep being distracted by things going wrong on every single piece, I think it means the company is just not good enough for professional standards! Maybe focusing on one ballet and really refining the details would be better than bringing 3 at once.

2.0 star rating Carol from Bristol

AWFUL

Sleeping Beauty Absolute shambles, so disappointed, took my best friend for her birthday, worst ballet I've ever seen. Orchestra was timid and not up to the job.. Shouldn't be touring too young not enough experience

2.0 star rating Joanna from Brighton,

NOT GOOD ENOUGH

The set is a computer backdrop. Stark brash lighting. No atmosphere. Dancers chasing rounds of applause. No flow. Every few steps chopped up into a clap-able sequence. Emotion free. Not good enough for a professional show. I’ve seen Matthew Bourne Swan lake. This is a Pygmy by comparison.
