A powerful new play exploring THAT 1995 interview with HRH Princess Diana
As interviews go, it doesn't really get bigger than the one conducted between Martin Bashir and Princess Diana back in 1995. Revelatory, scandalous, and now ruled as an example of spurious journalism, this searing new play from Jonathan Maitland examines the interview, its subject, and the means by which it came about from every angle - asking if we can still rule Diana's words the truth now we know about Bashir's decidedly untruthful methods of obtaining them. A vital question in today's world.

Broadcast on the BBC's Panorama program in 1995, An Interview with HRH The Princess of Wales was one of the late 20th century's biggest pop-culture moments. Featuring the Princess's own insights into the breakdown of her marriage and her husband's affair it included the now infamous quote: "there were three of us in this marriage. So it was a bit crowded", alongside jaw-dropping insights into her royal life, her mental health and more. Despite its impact, in 2020 it was ruled that Martin Bashir was guilty of using deceitful means to secure this sit down, a move that saw Bashir shunned by the industry and the BBC apologise to Diana's brother.
