CHICAGO
DONT GO !!! if you want to sit and watch an orchestra all night that’s what you get !! NO props no stage set just an orchestra with 10 ft of stage left for them to sing and dance absolutely a RIP OFF
from London,
VERY DISAPPOINTING
Love Chicago and seen May productions. This was awful, but I can only say that about the first half as we left at the interval! All the action along the front of the stage and audience took up most of it. Dancing seemed slow and not as crisp as it should be - great dancers , but struggling with choreography that was always just under the beat - so disappointing. Cuba Golding croaked through his song and Velma lacked stage presence.the wonderful Ruthie looked uncomfortable the role of Mama she was obviously watching a less than great Roxie in the role she acted and sang off the stage. To cap it all seats were very small and close together adding to the discomfort! Not a great night to see one of my favourite shows butchered .

SO DISAPPOINTING
Can only speak of the first half as so bad and seats so uncomfortable we left at the interval. No scenery or costumes to speak of - all the action in front of a massive orchestra taking up 80 percent of the stage. Cuba Golding Junior croaked his way through All I need is love - pitchy and under- rehearsed. Great dancers but choreography not sharp and under the beat. Velma - no stage presence at all. The wonderful Ruthie Henshall uncomfortable in the role of Mamma - she would have been better in her original Roxie role . What a huge disappointment.

CHICA-DON’T-GO
My sister and I took our youngest sister for her birthday yesterday, well I wish we hadn’t as I feel we let her down. I was bitterly dissapointed in this production. I had seen it years ago and it was fantastic. I excitedly told my sister that the Cell Block Tango was the best song as they all start behind the bars and use them to dance around. I did comment before the stage curtain came up that I couldn’t see the orchestra and that’s because they were on the stage! Meaning the cast had to act on a narrow strip of stage in front on them. There were no props (apart from a few chairs), no costume changes (apart from some shoes), and not much cast which meant that they were all doubling up their roles and waiting on the side of the stage for their turn to act (much like a school play). Cuba Gooding Jr, whilst a good actor, cannot sing and is clearly having trouble keeping up with it as his voice was so hoarse the chorus were having to sing the majority of his songs for him.
