UNFAIR REVIEWS!

We saw this show last evening and can’t understand the negative reviews posted here! The singer had a good voice and sang a wide selection of carpenters songs very well. The musicians were absolutely excellent and the audience gave a standing ovation at the end of the show. Karen Carpenter had a unique voice, and therefore, you cannot expect anyone else to emulate her completely, so it is unfair to criticise a good singer doing her job well!

GREAT BAND BUT SINGER DIDN’T HAVE THE RIGHT RANGE

The show doesn’t tell the story in any depth, shows video clips (out of sync) the main singer, I’m afraid, sounded like a karaoke attempt, didn’t do Karen’s voice any justice of her incredible voice. This should really be billed as a tribute not their ‘story’

DISAPPOINTING

I saw the show last night and was very disappointed as there was very little content on the actual story of the carpenters. The show was more of a singalong with a few video clips in the background. I would say if you want the carpenters story you would be better off watching a documentary which I think has been on the tv before. Although the lead singer had a good voice it didn’t do justice to Karen’s velvet tones. This to me was like watching a tribute band that didn’t look or sound like the carpenters.

DISAPPOINTED

There was no carpenters story. The show was more like a tribute band .

VERY DISAPPOINTING

We saw the show last night and was that disappointed that we left at the interval. The lead singer struggled with a lot notes, and her voice was just not strong enough lacking depth. She sounded nothing like Karen Carpenter, and gave more the impression that we were at a Karaoke sing along. The backing band singers were much better than the lead singer. Really would not recommend this one for Carpenter fans.

VERY DISAPPOINTED

Saw this in Plymouh last night 02/04/23, but they do not have a review site. Very disappointed. With the word "Story" in the title, was expecting something similar to Beautiful or Jersey Boys. Instead we endured what in my opinion was a misleading and poor show. The musicians were very good, but the format, backdrop and vocalist left much to be desired. as already mentioned by another reviewer the background video was out of sinc. Some of the supposed happenings in 1971 I suggest never happened in 1971and there was very little actual Carpenters story told. Why were the songs not sung in order of release date? like a story is told. We seriously debated leaving at the interval but decided to stay in case it improved in the second half, both of us decided it did not. Very poor evenings entertainment.

MISLEADING FROM BEGINNING TO END

Only go to see this mimed karaoke act if you want to spend the same price for a FULL production West End show as you would for a bunch of pensioners that you could see for free in a pub! This was the worst show I have ever seen and I have seen a lot. The whole premise is mis-leading. There is no story, only a shoddy screen in the background which doesn't show anything of any relevance just floating masks when the singer does a poor version of masquerade. At one point, I even forgot that the show was supposed to be about the Carpenters as the screen just showed images of the Muppets! Five people left in my row during the interval as this was the Claire Furley show - a woman I would never have paid full ticket price to see. The whole thing was cringe from beginning to end, at one point I felt as if I was sat in a nursery when the muppets starting showing up on the screen and Claire Furley asked if anyone could 'hum' along. The guitarist who must have been in his late seventies thought that he was Jimi Hendrix which was ultra-cringe as he barely had the strength to lift up the guitar yet alone mime playing it. This show is grossly mis-sold to make you listen to a singer you might never choose to see. Please, don't waste your money on this poor, embarrassing farse. It is an insult to Karen Carpenter's memory and in my opinion highly disprespectful. If Richard Carpenter knew that people such as these were exploiting his sister this way to gain publicity, I am sure he would be furious!!!

ABSOLUTE GARBAGE

Sound from the band was very poor and insipid. Singer didn’t sound anything like Karen Carpenter or even had a good voice. Audience obviously hadn’t a clue what they were listening to, as they were all cheering and gave them a standing ovation???.?.

AN INSULT TO THE CARPENTERS

Saw the Carpenters Story last night in Sunderland. What a disappointment. Very poor singer and a bunch or geriatric musicians (not sure that they actually played their instruments) who really didn't reflect the magic sound of the Carpenters. If this bunch turned up at a karaoke night at the local pub they would have been booed of the stage. A real waste of money!

THE CARPENTERS STORY

Went to the show in Stoke on 9/9/23.Completely agree with the other reviews, this was not their story,it was 5 mature musicians supported by a lady singing carpenter songs to an average standard supported by some old newsreel clips project onto a screen at the back of the stage. My review only covers the first half of the production as we left in the interval feeling very disappointed.

LEFT AT THE INTERVAL

Sorry but we have to agree with all the negative reviews above. Very disrespectful to Karen. We left at the interval. Couldn’t get our money back but time is more precious !!

SAVE YOUR MONEY

I have never left a show during the interval but fortunately I made an exception here - I would have left earlier but I didn’t want to disturb anyone. There was no actual story, nothing chronological and probably the worst camp karaoke attempt I have ever witnessed. We were not the only ones paying earlier for our car park tickets. The only good thing I can say is that the ice cream was nice but pricey.
