BRILLIANT!

I loved this show! Had a smile on my face the whole time. All the music you remember from the movie (Maniac, Gloria, What a Feeling!) and the dancing was unreal - especially Victoria, that girl didn't stop! I thought they did a fab job staying true to the film while making the piece work on stage. I saw the show with some friends who work in the West End, and they agreed, this is a hit. I'll definitely be going back.

GREAT SHOW!

I don't know why people are criticising - this show was excellent! First class dancers and singers. Loved hearing the maniac song and both the lead who played Alex and Matt Willis were fantastic. Think I will have to book to see it again I enjoyed it so much.

OUTSTANDING PIECE OF WORK

To begin I must say I rather enjoyed that this musical was different than the movie, after all we are in the 21st Century guys. Anyway, the humor and choreography was great and the hip hop dancing was a nice anecdote. I urge young and old to get tickets and enjoy this fantastic show. I can't wait to go back and see what they've done with the show after it officially opens.

WHAT A FEELIN'

From the moment it opens I was completely hooked. There this huge steel mill on stage and then suddenly that all fades away as the this stunning actress walks on and swishes some hair that made for a shampoo add. But then she sings, and it’s clear the hair is not the only talented part of this actress, and then she dances and you are in love. Even if you don’t like the 80’s or god forbid musicals, Flashdance is still worth seeing, it is that good

A STEELY SENSATION

In these turbulent times, Flashdance has it all. A lot of heart and a feel good finish that's not afraid to address some of the darker sides of life. I loved it. It is a piece that manages to mix music and mayhem in one tight package. You will eat it up and never spit it out. A fantastic musical. I hope it is in NEW YORK by Christmas so I can take my family.

WHAT A GREAT FEELING!!!

Flashdance the Musical does a terrific job of capturing the best moments from the movie while creating a stronger plot and great characters. The dancing is awesome and the choreography to the original songs from the movie is excellent. All of the actors are great, especially Victoria as Alex. A must see show on the West End!

THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN

Over my 49 years, I've been to many, many live performances (theatre, concerts, musicals, etc). This was the best that I've ever been to, by a long, long way. Simply awesome. If you see one show, make it this one.

WONDEFUL SHOW

Victoria Hamilton Baritt steals the show as Alex and her ability to perform all the classic dance moves is just mind-boggling. At the end of the show the cast is dancing in the aisles and the crowd is up tapping their feet and giving the great cast a standing ovation. The iconic water scene leaves the viewer wanting more at the end of ACT I and makes you even more eager for the show to continue during intermission. Just Fabulous! A must see.

OMG MATT WILLIS

SO I have been in total love with matt willis since I first started listening to busted! He was so cute back then, but he is such a man now! Seeing Flashdance was great as I finally got to see him in person. He has this really moody song that called Wake Up, (I think.) and he just killed it. He emotes so much while running around the stage and singing. He did not dance as much as I might have liked, but he was so funny and so good at singing that it did not matter. But I was surprised to find that all of Flashdance was better then I expected. I loved the 80’s film, and had no idea how they were going to make it work on stage, but they totally did. They have some of the original songs from the film and its really funny to watch them be sung by the whole cast. In particular I loved GLORIA. They manage to take a song that I do not think of as a particularly sexy song and make it HOT. Of course the dancing is great, so good it looks effortless. The whole play just this great feel and

FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE, GREAT SHOW!

My wife was a huge fan of the movie back in the 80’s when she was growing up. She used to tell me that she and her friends would dance around their yard and take turns dumping buckets of water on each other. This was not an activity I partook in in my youth. For her birthday I got tickets to the show and I have to say that I was impressed enough to write this review. It is a sensational play. Now I have not seen many West End Musicals, but I find it hard to imagine that there are many other ones that are better then this production. All of the performers are very talented being what my wife calls ‘triple threats.’ There is a lot of street dancing that my wife says was not in the film, but it fits well with the play as a whole, which is an unabashed celebration of all things dance. The songs were all very well sung and I do not want to give anything anyway about the plot per say, but ACT TWO opens with a Helicopter and some I LOVE ROCK N ROLL which was a good laugh to hear.

ARLEEN I LOVE YOU

I have been working as a contemporary dancer for ages in the London area and have followed Arleen Philiips career with religious zealotry since I first saw her chorography in saturday night fever. FLASHDANCE exceeded my expectations for what a ceorgrpaher could do with dance in a musical theater piece. Most plays I have seen on the west end have seem to have included dance as an afterthought, tacking it onto the end simply because the audience expects it. In Flashdance the dancing is evocative, loud and as intregal to the piece as if it was the star right along with Alex Ownes. The final product is a testament to the skill of the production team as a whole which clrealy embraced all elements of the play, notably the dance, song and acting with equal measure in order to make a wonderful layered production. Congradulations for a wonderful play and also a wonderful set, which took my breath away.

WHAT A GREAT NIGHT!

Ok so its not going to clear up at the awards. But it knocks the leg warmers of Dirty Dancing. Just for the fact all the songs are sung! The hip hop interludes between scenes are well produced and work well. The sets and whole stage set up is fantastic. Vocally the four main female leads were fantastic.Storyline it is what it says Flashdance! A few storyline changes to oomph it up a bit. Totally 80's nostalga. The dancing was superb and cast work really hard to deliver vocally while. So yes yes at times it not pitch perfect but you can't dance and sing to the amount they do without some impact on vocals. i dropped it one star because Flashdance really does not have much of a story line anyway. The flow of songs at times struggle. i always judge a musical by rating by would i pay agin to see it in the future and the Answer is yes just for the nostalga and sheer fun! And by the sheer reception from the crowd at the end so would a lot of others. Judge by yourself!

FLASHDANCE FEVER

I went along to see Flashdance whilst in previews and was astounded by the standard of the performances given by all the cast members. In particular Victoria Hamilton-Barritt proved herself to be a true professional, she was confident, sexy and kept the whole show together very tightly. She is the central figure in the show and she achieved this splendidly. Her singing, dancing and acting were all of an incredibly high standard, she is a true West End Performer and I think she will go on to perform on Broadway and will do well in films and t.v. Good luck to her she has obviously worked her socks off and deserves all the fantastic reviews she has received, one standing out especially 4**** given in The Independent which in my opinion is the one to follow.

DISAPPOINTING

Firstly, I must admit I'm not a great lover of musicals. However, I love dance, Flashdance - the movie and particularly the sequence 'What a Feeling', so I was looking forward to watching the musical. From the start, the 1980s storyline updated just didn't work for me, I'm afraid. The hip hop/street dancing was great, but felt totally out of place. The background noise intended to help add atmosphere to some of the scenes was incredibly irritating and distracting and too loud. The well known songs used were far and away the best bits, with dull dialogue and overly long in between songs. What will remain to me more memorable than the 'What a Feeling' sequence from this show is Robert Webb's great Comic Relief version!

MORE OF A DIM LIGHTBULB THAN A FLASH

Vaguely knowing the story of Flashdance I expected to be wowed by vigorous dance routines, choreographed by Arlene Phillips and singing along with popular 80’s tracks as they reignited a love for the era. However Flashdance was not so much a “Flash” and more of a “Dull flickering lightbulb”. The industrial scenery throughout the show is very good and the set flies around the stage effortlessly. However the story is a bit vague and jumpy, for example in the program synopsis it states that it is the main character, Alex’s dream to obtain a place at the Shipley Dance Academy but in reality it didn’t come across as her dream but her mother Hannah’s. Quite a flaw in the plot! The character building in act 1 was very slow and I only truly believed the character of Gloria (Alex’s best friend and fellow flashdancer). Overall the show came across as a bit plastic and cheesy.

GOOD CAST - DREADFUL SHOW

The cast performed well, with what they had. The show starts off with a musical number which seems as though it will never end and really gets no better. The numbers that you know and love are underplayed. The new music is boring and in total contrast to the songs from the movie. Mix this in with bad choregraphy (By Arlene Phillips) which doesn't work, with each segment being linked by 21st century HipHop dance breaks... you have a bad show. Dialogue is forced and you really don't care about the characters or the story. The famous water chair dance is cut down to mere seconds. A dream sequence sees yet more HipHop as does the encore, where the cast are dancing in the aisles... and the audience just sit staring... stunned. For the second night of previews, there was NO standing ovation and I witnessed many people not even applauding during the finale. Thsi show should have traded on nostalgia, in the same way as Saturday Night Fever or Dirty Dancing.
