Hairspray Reviews
Gerald Sage from London, England
TREMENDOUS, ALLEGEDLY, IF YOU CAN SEE THE STAGE AND DISCERN THE PLOT
Sadly the box we were in was too small for the four large chairs. Consequently I was at the back with no view of the stage unless I stood up and leaned forward, in which case I could just see the far end. The sound was deafening, impossible to make out any words, or indeed individual melodies. Occasionally the cacophony would stop, to rapturous applause. There was no Michael Ball, or indeed Phill Jupitus or other superstar or comedian to my knowledge, which may have contributed to a lack of lustre, though the understudy was probably competent. The costumes were bright and the sets, er, also bright. The Coliseum is an architectural gem, particularly the ceiling of which we had an excellent view.
