Can a world fractured by war ever make peace with itself?
The ENO gather a potent group of talent to revive Benjamin Britten's 1961 masterpiece in a brand new production that will mark the centenary of the end of World War I. Director Daniel Kramer, Turner Prize winner Wolfgang Tillmans and Music Director Martyn Brabbins come together to stage the evocative unforgettable work with a heightened emphasis on grief, loss and hope that we can one day break the end cycle of violence.
Britten's requiem weaves together the words of war poet Wilfred Owens with the traditional Latin of the Catholic Mass to create a highly tuned choral experience designed to move all involved. Monumental in structure, the production will include the entire ENO orchestra, an 80 voice chorus and a children's choir of 40 from Finchley Children's Music.
Opening night: 16 November 2018
