In an exciting development, Just For One Day, the musical celebrating the legendary Live Aid concert of July 13, 1985, is headed to London's West End in 2025. This West End debut coincides with the 40th anniversary of the historic event that brought the world together through music.
After premiering at London's Old Vic Theatre earlier this year, the show, directed by Luke Sheppard and penned by John O'Farrell, offers a look behind the scenes at the efforts of Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. These two visionaries were the driving force behind Live Aid and co-founders of The Band Aid Charitable Trust, an organization dedicated to fighting famine and poverty in Africa. The trust will receive 10% of ticket sales, with 50% of the production's profits, post-recoupment, also going to support its mission.
The musical showcases unforgettable performances by stars like Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Elton John, and, of course, Queen, with Freddie Mercury's iconic presence shining through. These legendary hits are brought to life on stage by a talented ensemble cast.
Craige Els, who wowed audiences as Bob Geldof at the Old Vic, will return to the role when the show moves to the Shaftesbury Theatre. Previews are scheduled to begin on May 15 with a special gala performance set for July 13, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the original Live Aid concert.
