Tilly No-Body: Catastrophes of Love

Technically impressive, admirable, and full of respect for its subject, Tilly No-Body is a labour of love, and an interesting biography of a commonly misrepresented historical figure.

Why see Tilly No-Body: Catastrophes of Love?
London Premiere
Following its critically acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe where it won the EFFTA Award, and a special showcase at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, Tilly No-Body: Catastrophes of Love arrives in London for the first time. Written and performed by Bella Merlin, the powerful production draws parallels between actress Tilly Wedekind’s memoir and her own lived experience as a survivor of domestic coercion. Directed by Miles Anderson, the play is a hauntingly intimate experience.
What is it About?
Set within an abandoned circus, Tilly No-Body: Catastrophes of Love examines the turbulent life of early 20th-century actress Tilly Wedekind. Once a formidable talent, Tilly is systematically stripped of her stage roles and her identity by her husband, Frank Wedekind, the famous playwright behind Spring Awakening. Trapped in a suffocating, toxic marriage that triggers a severe emotional breakdown, Tilly faces a stark choice between erasure and survival.
