Death Note

Death Note at Barbican Theatre

Why see Death Note?

English Language Full Scale Premiere

Following the concert-version which ran in 2023, the world-renowned Death Note: The Musical returns to London for the premiere of a brand new, full-scale English language production in the West End! Adapted from the wildly successful manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, the English-language production of the musical follows major award-winning productions in Japan and South Korea. With book by Ivan Menchell, a score by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde) and lyrics by Jack Murphy, the psychological intensity of the source material of Death Note sets the scene for what is sure to be an absolutely gripping musical.

What is the story?

Light Yagami is a gifted but completely disillusioned student, who turns both his own life and the lives of countless others upside-down after discovering a mysterious notebook. Owned by the god of death Ryuk, the notebook grants Light the power to end lives simply by inscribing the victim's name. Convinced he can reshape society by eliminating criminals, Light embarks on a secret campaign of vigilante justice, soon becoming drunk on his own power. But his actions draw the attention of a detective known only as L, setting off a calculated battle of intellect...
