New Play From Theatre Company Of Sanctuary

Debuting playwright and performer Tafadzwa Muchenje joins forces with director Rosie MacPherson to co-create an urgent piece of theatre, produced and presented by the UK’s first “Theatre Company of Sanctuary”, Stand and Be Counted. Ripples is grounded in real events, standing as a blistering commentary on the UK’s hostile immigration landscape and the very real experiences of the human beings it comes for. Stand and Be Counted is a theatre company working with refugees and migrants to foster opportunities to develop, create, perform and be platformed. Sitting somewhere between the arts and social activism, they are well positioned to help tell this story. 

What Is It About?

A young man sits on the precipice of the rest of his life. He’s just finished school and made the big move to the city, with dreams of making his mark on the world. But everything is shattered when an unexpected letter leads to a raid, pulling him from his family and casting him suddenly into the cold bureaucratic machinery of the immigration system, facing deportation. Trapped by institutional suspicion and being watched at every corner, he must fight to retain his identity, reclaim his voice, and challenge a system designed to erase his story.
