Why see Bedroom Farce?
FOUR COUPLES, THREE BEDROOMS AND A ROVING RELATIONSHIP TO STIR THINGS UP
Alan Ayckbourn's ingenious comedy takes a glance at the marital harmony, manners and social lives of four suburban couples as a problem relationship wreaks havoc in the course of a night. Directed by the highly accomplished Sir Peter Hall, Bedroom Farce is a hilarious, witty and essentially bleak view of middle-class marriage. It stars Jenny Seagrove as Delia and David Horovitch as her husband. Sara Crowe plays Jan, Tony Gardner is Nick, her bedbound husband. Daniel Betts plays Malcolm and Finty Williams is Kate. Orlando Seale and Rachel Pickup are the stirring Trevor and Susannah.
It is 1977, Trevor and Susannah have relationship problems and seek advice from their family and friends, in their respective bedrooms, in the middle of the night. Delia and Ernest, both in their 70s, are a stiff-upper-lip couple who are routine bickerers. Egotistical Malcolm and big-hearted Kate are a normal, contented couple. Nick and Jan are continual testing each other's patience, but with Nick in bed with a bad back, things are far from pleasant. Through a couple of celebrations and one raging row, Trevor and Susannah visit each couple, disrupting the careful balances each couple built.
