Why see Riverdance?

Twenty years after taking the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin by storm, Irish dance sensation are back for this special anniversary tour, combining the athleticism and skill of Irish dance, with Celtic mythology. Continually updating their routines for new generations of fans, this high-octane show is still breaking records two decades on.

Riverdance remains the brainchild of dance superstar Michael Flatley, the self-proclaimed "Lord of the Dance"; even though he no longer fronts the show, the legacy of the show since bursting onto the Dublin stage that fateful night in 1994 is due in no small part to him.

Their shows are famed by explosively perfect heart-stopping harmony, Celtic mythology and haunting music.

Riverdance 2024

Although there were some highlights in this show, my overall experience was slightly disappointing. The princess theatre in torquay is dated. We sat near the back of the theatre and struggled to see the stage. There were only 16 dancers in the show, which meant that the emotional impact was diminished. The cast were superb - fit, expressive and talented. The pared down numbers however changed the dynamic feel to the show which i have experienced in a larger theatre. I found the video shown of larger shows somewhat confusing - ie ‘this is how good the show can be with lots more dancers’. Torquay need to up their game - long queues for toilets and drinks…. Theatre very hot… seating not well arranged. We need to be able to see the dancer’s feet on the stage! ... Read more
