Pinter at the Pinter - Party Time/Celebration

Pinter at the Pinter - Party Time/Celebration at Harold Pinter Theatre

Why see Pinter at the Pinter - Party Time/Celebration?

An all star casts leads the celebrations!

Jamie Lloyd and co have cooked up a unique new event paying tribute to theatrical iconoclast and Nobel prize winner Harold Pinter for the tenth anniversary of his death - a whole season at his namesake theatre, dedicated to his one-act plays. Kicking off proceedings is this double bill, featuring Celia Imrie, John Simm, Tracey Ann Oberman and Abraham Popoola.

Over a five decade career, Harold Pinter rose to become one of our most influential playwrights with his biting wit and simmering menace contributing to 29 full length plays and 25 theatrical sketches. The Pinter at the Pinter season will delve into his shorter works, that despite their length, pack no less of that characteristic punch.

Party Time (1991)
The super-rich congregate at a lavish party thrown by Gavin. In their bourgeois London bubble they boast, peacock, squabble and preen as the world outside raging. Timely as ever, Pinter questions morality and power in the face of increasing boundaries to freedom.

Celebration (1999)
In typical Pinteresque style, nothing is ever as it seems in this restaurant set comedy that sees two married couples gathering for a wedding anniversary. As the evening wears on, the guests and waiters find themselves grappling with ever-darker undercurrents, from the rampant materialism of the nouveau riche to seething hatred with a little existentialism thrown in for good measure.
