I am absolutely thrilled to be collaborating again with Ivo and Jan on this wonderful, heartbreaking and deeply human monologue from Jean Cocteau.

Double Olivier winner Ruth Wilson makes her long-awaited stage return in innovative theatre director Ivo Van Hove's The Human Voice, written by french visionary Jean Cocteau, with design by Jan Vesrweyveld. A monologue that takes place as one half of a telephone call, it's hard to miss the prescience of this 1928 play in our modern, phone-dependent culture.
As luminous on stage as she is on stage, Wilson is no stranger to the West End, and this latest project reunites her with Van Hove, who she most recently worked with on the National Theatre's production of Hedda Gabler in 2017.
What is the story?
A final conversation between a woman and her lover - who is soon to married to someone else - The Human Voice explores human needs and connections and has been adapted numerous times on stage and screen with 2020's The Human Voice, directed by Pedro Almodovar and starring Tilda Swinton.
