Why see Purpose?

Meet The Jaspers

After a critically acclaimed run on Broadway and across some of the United States' most prestigious theatres, Tony Award winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' Purpose transfers to the Royal Court as part of its 2027/28 season. With themes of civil rights and generational activism, prepare for something spectacular and thought-provoking as this "thumping, riveting, guns-blazing, major new American play" makes its eagerly anticipated London premiere.

What is the Story?

The Jaspers are a black family with a decades-long history in black activism and civil rights. One day, their youngest son, Nazareth, brings an unfamiliar guest to the family home. This guest's arrival brings the family's secrets to the forefront, forcing the Jaspers to confront their faith and their legacy.
