Sabrina Mahfouz's Latest Cross Cultural WorK

British Egyptian playwright, poet and performer Sabrina Mahfouz first rose to prominence with With A Little Bit of Luck, a cultural exploration of the UK garage-scene in the early 2000s. Drawing upon her own rich mixed heritage she carries on her insightful and deeply poetic anthropological examinations in her latest work The History of Water in the Middle East, showing as part the Royal Court Theatre's 2019/20 season this Autumn. 

Mahfouz grew up with every intention of becoming a spy when she grew up - the fact that she had dual nationality, spoke two languages and held a unique perspective on two radically different cultures made her the perfect candidate, in her own mind at least. When she is rejected by MI6 for not being British enough, she embarks upon her own eye-opening journey into the politics of the Middle East and how water has shaped them for centuries.
