To Love An AI
After successful runs across Asia and at the Edinburgh Fringe, the award-winning South Korean musical You & It makes its London premiere at the King's Head Theatre! Developed by original writers Seoeun Oh and Q Lee, this unsettling-yet-moving tale of love and grief in the age of AI features lyrics by Ricky Allan, dramaturgy by Yojiro Ichikawa and direction by Esther Jun. The musical two-hander stars Olivier Award nominee Frances Mayli McCann (The Great Gatsby) alongside Zachary Pang, and arrives in London having previously won Best Musical at the Daegu International Musical Festival.
What Is The Story?
Drowning in grief, a widower struggles to navigate the loss of his wife. But this is the age of artificial intelligence, and in an effort to cope he comes across an AI built in her image. With this scene set, You & It is a searing exploration of the emotional boundaries of memory, questioning whether synthetic connection can ever truly replace authentic human love and shared history.

A Show That Deserves a Bigger Audience
The marketing felt a little lacking, which honestly surprised me because this is such a good show. I’m not quite sure why it still feels so under the radar — with a bit more visibility, I think it could find a much bigger audience.
By the end, the whole audience was on its feet. I laughed, I cried, and I genuinely left feeling happy. It also made me miss my late husband more than I expected.

A Beautiful Story of Love
A beautiful and heartfelt story about love, memory and letting go. The two performers were wonderful, and the music worked beautifully alongside the story.
It’s an intimate show that is both moving and thought-provoking. I went in not really knowing what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much the story stayed with me afterwards.

You&It: A Show That Needs to Exist Right Now
You&It runs for about 80 minutes, and what struck me most was how much potential it still has. There are a few gaps in the storytelling that could be developed further, but that also makes the piece exciting — you can really see how much bigger and stronger it could become.
More than anything, I think this is a show that needs to exist right now. Its questions about AI, grief, memory, love and whether someone can truly be replaced feel incredibly relevant.
I’ve heard people say the music feels a bit samey, but to me that’s much more of an arrangement issue than a songwriting one. With a fuller band — especially more percussion and acoustic guitar — the score could feel much richer.
It may not be completely there yet, but the potential is huge. 5 stars for that potential. ... Read more
