Tony Award winning classic play returns to London in brand new production
Peter Shaffer's Tony Award-winning modern masterpiece is coming back to London, with a new production at the Menier Chocolate Factory opening in spring 2026. Telling the tale of a child psychiatrist attempting to understand a teenager who has developed a fascination with horses, Equus is a boundary-breaking exploration of religion, sexuality, and societal pressures.
Dr Martin Dysart is starting to question his life's work in child psychiatry. And his existential concerns are about to be compounded by his new case: Alan Strang, who has started to blind horses. Dr Dysart must attempt to unravel Strang's motivations and desires, and begins to discover a tangled web of religious fascination, burgeoning sexual desire, and increasingly violent fixations. Can Dysart put his personal crisis aside and reach out to help a troubled boy?
