Why see Sweet Charity?

THE SHOW-STOPPER IS BACK IN THE WEST END

Based on the book my Neil Simon, Sweet Charity is a Tony Award-winning musical tells the bittersweet tale a tart with a heart who yearns to meet the right man. The scorching revival is directed by Matthew White with brilliantly smart and sassy choreography by Stephen Mear, dazzling set design by Tim Shortall and costumes by Matthew Wright. Tazmin Outhwaite plays the lead character of Charity.

This 1966 dance hall musical follows the story of Charity Hope Valentine, a gullible, hopeless romantic who has big dreams but seems to always give her heart to the wrong man. Trapped in the tawdry world of the Fan-Dango Ballroom - a taxi-dance-hall, where the girls are paid per song to dance with men - Charity aspires to greater things, and tries to free herself from the sleazy business of sexual desperation and dirty cash.

Sweet Charity features a searing score by Cy Coleman (music) and Dorothy Fields (lyrics), with musical supervision by Nigel Lilley, and includes the favourite hits such as 'Big Spender', 'If My Friends Could See Me Now' and 'The Rhythm of Life'.

Sweet Charity,

We went to see Sweet Charity on Sat 24th April, it was fantastic, a wonderful production! Tamzin Outhwaite was tremendous she sang and danced beautifully and had a great american accent and kept it up through out which must be hard. All the cast had such energy and were brilliant. Hey big spender, what a what a song! I am still humming the tunes which shows what a success it was Well done to them all! really do recommend it for a wonderful evening out. Would only possibly say that it would be better perhaps for children over 12. Thanks for a great evening! ... Read more
