Florian Zeller returns to London with a follow-up piece to his 2016 relationship drama The Truth, once again playing at the Menier Chocolate Factory. The Lie's English language premiere will be directed by Lindsay Posner, which was adapted for the stage by Christopher Hampton. The blurred lines between love and infidelity once again takes precedence, with Samantha Bond as Alice, a woman on the outside, looking in...
Where The Truth concerned itself with a married businessman Michel and his affair with equally-attached doctor Alice, this time she is witness to her friend's husband sneaking around with another woman. Still hurting from her own shady past, she tells her husband and asks him what she should do. Convinced that honesty is the best policy, she wants to tell her friend what she saw; her husband however takes a more circumspect view, and tells her that she should deny all knowledge.
