The National Theatre hosts the UK premiere of Portuguese playwright Tiago Rodriguez' dark new work about a shocking tradition and the complex moral questions it poses. The performance serves the National Theatre debut for Rodriguez, a writer whose works have been described as empathetic, thought-provoking and told from a place of compassion while challenging audiences to see things differently.
A family from Portugal has upheld a shocking ritual for seven decades: they gather together through the generations to execute a fascist. When young Catarina questions the morality and necessity of this violent custom, the family is plunged into conflict and an examination of the question: are violent means justified in the pursuit of a better world?
