Carmen Nasr's extraordinary new play comes to Dorfman in 2026
Critically acclaimed writer Carmen Nasr (Under The Shadow) makes her debut at the National Theatre with this searing and political new play, opening at the Dorfman in late 2026! Based on a true story, Samira follows a Middle Eastern Studies department during the Arab Spring and explores authenticity, political crisis, and the slippery nature of identity.
It's 2011. The Arab Spring is in full effect, and for a Middle Eastern Studies department in London, times have rarely been more extraordinary. In the midst of this push for political freedom, a young Syrian blogger mysteriously disappears without trace. The department finds itself thrown into chaos, as it slowly emerges that maybe this blogger was not everything she said she was. Identity, it seems, is much more malleable than any of them thought.
