Jesus Christ Superstar
Radical rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar returns to the Regent Park's Open Air Theatre
...this pared-back second coming is frequently heavenly, on one level a simple retelling of a familiar story, but on others a biting examination of religious and political fanaticism.

Radical rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar returns to the Regent Park's Open Air Theatre
What's the buzz? We'll tell you what's a-happening! London's Regent's Park Open Air theatre is set to open earlier than expected with a special concert version of glittering Andrew Lloyd Weber/Tim Rice staple Jesus Christ Superstar. The critically-lauded rock opera returns to the celebrated outdoor venue on the 14th of August for a six-week run, abiding by COVID-19 guidelines by hosting audiences up to 30 percent capacity, implementing a one-way system and restaging the production for socially-distanced performances.
Lloyd-Weber's bombastic biblical tuner makes a welcome return, having enjoyed three sell-out runs at Regent's Park and the Barbican. A true spectacle filled with demanding musical numbers like Everything's Alright, Gethsemane and Superstar, Jesus Christ Superstar begins with the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and explores his struggles as well as radical political themes not explored in the Bible. It also casts Judas as a tragic antihero and offers ironic allusions to modern life.
