Glenn Close Is The Final Herod!

Talk about a royal succession!

Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony Award winner Glenn Close will play King Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar from 4 to 9 January, becoming the final star to take on the role in London. Close is no stranger to villains or larger-than-life characters, having famously played Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction, Marquise de Merteuil in Dangerous Liaisons, and Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians.

An impressive collection of guest stars have already been named as Herod, including Matt Bomer, Rob Brydon, Reece Shearsmith, Bob The Drag Queen, Michael Ball, Simon Russell Beale, Omid Djalili and Layton Williams.

Jesus Christ Superstar In London

Starring Sam Ryder as Jesus, Jesus Christ Superstar transfers from its sold-out summer season at The London Palladium to Theatre Royal Drury Lane from 16 October 2026 to 9 January 2027, before heading out on a UK tour from February.

Written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of the final days of Jesus Christ through the eyes of Judas, featuring iconic numbers including "I Don't Know How to Love Him", "Gethsemane" and "Superstar."

Alongside Ryder and Close, the London cast features Tyrone Huntley as Judas, Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene, David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate, Bob Harms as Caiaphas and Phil King as Peter.
