Upholding their mission to nurture and collaborate with the London Theatre scene's finest emerging talent, the Park Theatre presents a groundbreaking program of exciting new voices as part of their 2018 season. After a promising debut in 2017 with Joy, a coming-of-age story about a woman with downs syndrome, Stephanie Martin returns with the world premiere of Alkaline, a poignant drama about friendship, faith and fear set agains the backdrop of islamic conversion.
Best friends growing up, Sophie and Sarah stand at a crossroads. Sarah's recently converted to Islam and is engaged to Ali, a man still married to the stormy Aleesha. Sophie, who's set to have a traditional wedding of her own to Nick, invites the couple for dinner, with the ulterior motive of asking Sarah to forgo wearing her hijab at the wedding. Things seem to be going well until Aleesha turns up out of the blue, bringing latent emotions and simmering tensions to the boil.
