The World Premiere of Dialektikon

A bold play of ideas, the world premiere of Jacky Ivimy's Dialektikon closes the Park Theatre's 2018 season with its thought provoking marriage of traditional West African folk stories, world music and excerpts of speeches from the 1967 Dialectics of Liberation meeting. Ivimy's provocative script draws upon the famous London meeting-of-minds, weaving a brand new tale of hope and questioning where past and present collide in a kaleidoscope of colours.

Bringing together various luminaries of the time including Allen Ginsberg, Stokely Carmichael and Herbert Marcuse to break bread and question war, racism, violence, politics and economics, the Dialectics of Liberation meeting became a rousing debate on how to create a better world. Ivimy uses excerpts from this historical event to tell the tale of Miranda, a young girl who hears the cries of an abused, angry earth. Led by an enigmatic spirit guide, Miranda must use courage and wisdom to escape the clutches of evil idol Moloch and right the wrongs of humankind.
