Why see Fast?

A Gripping Psychological Thriller

Emerging British playwright Kate Barton first captivated audiences with her fascinating dark drama Fast at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018. Based on the very true story of quack doctor Linda Hazzard and her deadly approach to healing people, Barton's take on this chilling slice of history grips its viewers with escalating tension, an eerie atmosphere and a shocking breaking of the fourth wall when the 'doctor' herself makes unnerving eye contact with spectators.

Set in Wilderness Heights, a rural area of Washington during the early twentieth century, Fast chronicles Hazzard and the opening of her very own sanatorium. Through the eyes of two of her patients, horrific details of her methods begin to emerge. According to Hazzard, all manner of ills can be cured by a fasting diet, which 'rids the body of toxins'. Although some sing her praises, not all patients survive their time at 'Starvation Heights' as it is come to be known. Drawing thought-provoking parallels with the modern clean eating, health and wellness movement, Fast is a gripping psychological thriller you won't want to miss.
