Eddie Izzard: Hamlet at Riverside Studios

Why see Eddie Izzard: Hamlet?

This Above All: To Thine Own Self Be True

An ensemble? No, it's Eddie Izzard playing 23 Shakespeare characters! Izzard's one-of-a-kind adaptation of Hamlet returns to London following a highly acclaimed run Off-Broadway. A stunning display of talent, join Izzard as she takes on every role, from the beleaguered Prince of Denmark to the gravediggers in her inimitable style. The adaptation comes from her brother Mark Izzard, with direction from theatrical legend Selina Cadell.

What is the story?

The iconic Shakespearean tragedy follows Hamlet of Denmark, a young prince who is left reeling from the sudden death of his father, King Hamlet. One fateful night, the ghost of King Hamlet appears to his son in a ghostly form, delivering an ominous secret surrounding the true events of his death, and to the surprise of young Hamlet, the killer lives closer than he could have ever expected...

Consumed by grief, anger, and a desire for revenge, Hamlet must now feign madness to investigate the truth behind his father's death and avenge his legacy.

About Eddie Izzard's Hamlet

Adapted by Mark Izzard, this rendition promises to be a fantastic interpretation of the Shakespearean classic! The production reunites the Izzards and Director Selina Cadell, following their partnership on the sold-out run of Charles Dickens's Great Expectations.

"I have always been drawn to portraying complex and challenging characters, and Hamlet is the ultimate" Izzard said about the show.

Loved this different take on a classic

If you're expecting traditional Shakespeare then dont bother! If you want a fresh alternative approach then this is a must watch!! Susie (Eddie) performed this classic play with an energy and skill I have never experienced before. She never faltered in her performance and was able to convince the audience that there was more than one person on the stage at any one time. A triumph and i defy anyone to try anyone to attempt the same. ... Read more

Thought-provoking, joyous, skillful

Suzie-Eddie does it again with a one person show that is moving, skillful, eye-opening, and well worth seeing by one and all. This is the very quintessence of feminist embodiment: someone who uses mind, body, voice, humour, vision and insight to explore a text we all thought we knew— until now. Wonderful,, generous and enjoyable theatre. ... Read more
