World Premiere from Academy Award Winner

The world premiere of Sacrilegious by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Tom Schulman comes to Riverside Studios under the direction of Tony-winner Andy Sandberg. part of a major run of new writing directed by Sandberg, it marks the first original stage play by Schulman, who won an Oscar for Dead Poets Society and previously adapted that same screenplay for the theatre. Sandberg made history in 2009 as the youngest Tony Award-winning producer ever at the time, for the Broadway revival of Hair, and in Sacrilegious is set to bring is passion for nurturing new work to this comic story of rabbi vs billionaire.

What Is It About?

On the most sacred day of the year, a principled and perhaps naive young rabbi shatters the status quo of his congregation by challenging its billionaire president. His ethical objection to a donation of an eye-watering $30 million forces his community to confront their values and moral integrity; when there’s that much money on offer, can they survive the corrupting influence of extreme wealth?
