Why see Jane Eyre?
Charlotte BrontE's Tale Comes To The Stage
Charlotte Bronte's seminal novel comes to life on stage at The Rose Theatre, and it's certainly a love worth fighting for. This gripping adaptation is packed with romance, mystery, secrets and just the right amount of gothic drama. Follow a young woman who beats the odds against the bad fortune life has bestowed on her as she escapes poverty as an orphan, falls in love with an aloof aristocrat, and suffers a huge betrayal.
This new production comes from Rose Theatre, Mercury Theatre Colchester and Storyhouse Chester, in association with Northern Stage, and is directed by Lily Dyble, winner of the 2025 RTST Sir Peter Hall Director Award.
What Is The Story?
Jane Eyre is a soul-stirring journey of bravery and love that begins when Jane, an orphaned young woman, is sent to the home of the mysterious Mr. Rochester to become a governess.
Entering a house full of unnerving silence, Jane finds herself in the middle of a labyrinth of long-buried secrets and pain and finds herself drawn to her enigmatic employer. A gothic, dark yet ultimately hopeful love story, Jane Eyre was published in 1847 and became Charlotte Brontë's most successful novel.
