Nuclear War

Nuclear War at Royal Court Theatre

Why see Nuclear War?

Imogen gets her directorial debut

Simon Stephens returns in his associate playwright capacity at the Royal Court in 2017, with his brand-new play following his previous works Birdland, Wastwater, Bluebird, Herons, Country Music and Motortown. Helmed by movement director Imogen Knight in her sole directorial debut for the Court, this new work is a series of contemplations on mortality and time amidst the background of nuclear warfare. When faced with certain death, each of us deal with our fragility in different ways; the play asks, does one live in the moment, or detach themselves from feelings altogether?

Knight's previous work for the Theatre include movement direction for Linda, God Bless the Child, and Pests. Linda received rave reviews after a last-minute cast change saw Cursed Child's Noma Dumezwen take on the lead role from Kim Cattrall. The work by Penelope Skinner focused on the invisibility of older women in society and was critically praised, especially with Dumezwen's "knockout" performance.
