Alcina - Royal Ballet and Opera at Royal Opera House

Why see Alcina - Royal Ballet and Opera?

Sorcery And Seduction

The rare and glorious Handelian opera Alcina promises to hold you under its spell, as a tale of seduction, magic, and intrigue plays out to some of Handel's most beautiful masterpieces. Richard Jones returns to direct this Olivier Award-winning production at The Royal Opera House, featuring Emily D’Angelo as Ruggiero and Lisette Oropesa as Alcina!

What is the Story?

Alcina is a sorceress as tempting as she is cruel. Many have tried to claim her heart, but eventually she tosses all her lovers aside, turning them into monsters or stone. When the knight Ruggiero stumbles onto her island, he is immediately drowned by her charms. When Bradamante, Ruggiero's long-suffering fiancée, comes to rescue him, dressed too as a knight, Alcina's wandering eye enters them all into an enchanted and accursed love triangle.
