Lohengrin

Aptly, this brand-new staging of Wagner's love story takes place in a dystopian nightmare.
Why see Lohengrin?
The first reinvention since 1977!
A new production of Wagner's epic romantic opera heads to the Royal Opera House next year, with a star-studded cast that includes Klaus Florian Vogt, Kristine Opolais and Christine Goerke. Directed by opera's respected David Alden, this timely new version of Lohengrin takes place in a dystopian society, a bombed out city where people are in desperate need of hope. This new production of Wagner's Arthurian-inspired opera is the first new incarnation since 1977!
The prayers of a desperate woman are answered in the form of a noble warrior in Wagner's turning point opera, which contrasts the lust for power with the search for faith. Created in the interval between Tannhauser and the first operas of his Ring cycle, this work marked his maturity and the future direction that his operatic works would take.
