Northern Ballet - Geisha

Northern Ballet - Geisha at Sadlers Wells Theatre

Why see Northern Ballet - Geisha?

A brand new ballet from the Northern Ballet

After wowing audiences and critics alike with his production on Casanova, Choreographer in Residence for Northern Ballet Kenneth Tindall presents Geisha, another all-new original work. Based on an extraordinary true story, the arresting production vividly portrays the collision of East and West, whilst supernatural elements swirl in the maelstrom it causes.

Geisha follows an experienced geisha named Okichi, who befriends a young trainee named Aiko. Their growing sisterly bond is tested after a meeting with American soldiers goes awry. Thrown out and dishonored by US Consul-General Harris, Okichi ends her own life, whilst a sorrowful Aiko finds love in the arms of Harris' handsome young assistant Henry. But Okichi's spirit will not rest and she returns to the world of the living to wreak havoc...

Remember this and book early!

Geisha: it is rare indeed to find a ballet that deserves 5 stars for the choreographer, (Kenneth Tindall), the dancers (Northern Ballet), the story, the music, the sets, the costumes, and the lighting, but this one hits all the spots in a magical evening which can only enhance the reputation of this company as a consistent and highly original producer of narrative ballets over the last 50 years. The first night audience gave it the rapturous applause it deserves and it is to be hoped that it will be able to continue on tour in spite of the current crisis. Kenneth Tindal follows David Nixon's star quality with an originality of his own that is hard to beat. We can look forward with confidence to many happy years of the kind of inspiration and fantastic performance of the Northern Ballet dancers who thrilled all those present with the quality of their interpetaion of a very unusual choice of story. ...
