Why see Cuckoo?

A sparkling new production

Growing up is hard but when you're the most hated person in school and your only friend doesn't talk and wears a tux to school every day, it can be even worse. Shortlisted for the Papatango New Writing Prize Cuckoo explores what it means to be a young person in Ireland today.

In this fresh and modern take on youth culture, Lisa Carrol dissects the true cost of belonging and the constant pull of 'home'. From Lip Kits to Lucozade Carrol's exploration results in a sparkling, no-holds-barred production which will speak to everyone. From the young to the old from the rich to the poor Cuckoo is a human story like no other.

What is Cuckoo about?

Everyone hates Iona, she talks too much, and everyone hates Pingu, he says nothing at all AND wears a tux to school every day. Sick of the constant bullying the duo decide to take matters into their own hands and emigrate out of Dublin. When news of their plan spreads Iona finds herself at the centre of attention. Drunk on her new popularity Iona falls deeper into their grasp before realising she's messing with the wrong crowd...
