Why see English National Opera - Iphigenie En Tauride?
An Ancient GreeK Eno Debut!
Olivier award-winning director Lyndsey Turner brings Guck's most important work to the London Coliseum for the first time! Since 1779, opera companies around the world have staged the epic French opera, which takes place in ancient Greece in the years before the Trojan War.
Christine Rice will play Iphigenie, following her critically-acclaimed stint in Dead Man Walking. Jacques Imbrailo will star as her brother Oreste.
What's The Story?
Before the Trojan Wars of Ancient Greece, mythological King Agamemnon sacrifices his daughter Iphigenia so that his army can set sail to Troy. In Iphigenie En Tauride, the story reimagines Iphigenia’s ill-fated life and places her in the city of Tauride. She lives there in secret, hidden from her family...until her brother Orestes is also banished to the same place.
