Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht's hauntingly relevant opera is brought to stunning life in this all-new production by the English National Opera, coming to London's Coliseum February 2026. Directed by Olivier Award nominee Jamie Manton (The Cunning Little Vixen), Rise And Fall of the City of Mahagonny is a scathing tale of consumerist culture.
Welcome to the City of Mahagonny. It's a place with no rules, no boundaries, where every desire can be fulfilled and the streets are full of gold - provided you can afford to pay the price. As three criminals fleeing the law think they've found a haven for themselves, they slowly discover that endless greed and avarice can be very dangerous indeed. Weill's score cleverly mixes opera with ragtime and jazz influences, creating a unique opera that is as provocative and fiery now as it was at its premiere over 90 years ago.
