Entertaining Mr Sloane

Why see Entertaining Mr Sloane?

It may be Swinging 60s London but out in the suburbs, behind closed doors, Kath is lonely.  Craving love and affection, Kath and her bachelor brother take a lodger.  Soon, both become infatuated with the shady young tenant with a murky past – Mr Sloane.

Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, Cranford, Shakespeare in Love] and Mathew Horne (BAFTA award winning Gavin and Stacey, The Catherine Tate Show), star in Joe Orton’s fiendishly dark comedy for a strictly limited West End season at the Trafalgar Studios.

Originally staged in 1964, Joe Orton’s wickedly biting comedy sparked controversy with its mischievous peep at the hypocrisy behind the ‘new’ permissive society of the 1960’s and the British fascination with sex.

A very entertaining Mr. Sloane

Jordan Stephens is a very endearing and entertaining Mr. Sloane. He achieves an excellent balance of ‘cockiness’ and humility and delivers a very engaging and compelling standout performance. Tamzin Outhwaite is believable, vulnerable, witty, natural and relatable. Daniel Cerqueira is appropriately understated yet arrogant, humorous and convincing. Christopher Fairbank has the audience in his palm right from the start as an eccentric and loveable ‘dadda’. This quartet is harmonious and delivers flawlessly against the backdrop of wonderfully chaotic, eclectic yet simple staging and production that enable the audience to become intimate with the characters. An excellent performance - firmly rooted in the sixties, enhanced by a bit of rizzle and kick from Jordan Stephens. A must see! ... Read more
