Entertaining Mr Sloane

Why see Entertaining Mr Sloane?

Joe Orton's Masterful Comedy Thriller Returns to London

Artistic Director Nadia Fall takes the helm for this new production of Joe Orton's classic play, coming to London's Young Vic Theatre this Fall. Starring Daniel Cerqueira and Tamzin Outhwaite, Entertaining Mr Sloane is a knotty, seductive comedy thriller that keeps audiences guessing at its characters' true intentions.

What Is The Story?

Kath is a middle-aged landlady living in a house by a rubbish dump. When the mysterious and charming Mr Sloane arrives looking for bed and board, Kath is immediately enamoured. But matters soon get complicated as Kath's brother Ed also falls for Mr Sloane, whilst their father harbours suspicions that the young stranger is hiding a violent secret. Entertaining Mr Sloane is a vicious black comedy that shocked initial audiences with its depictions of repressed sexuality and societal behaviours. Even 60 years on from the play's debut, its twists and turns still have great impact.

Andrew Webster

A very entertaining Mr. Sloane

Jordan Stephens is a very endearing and entertaining Mr. Sloane. He achieves an excellent balance of ‘cockiness’ and humility and delivers a very engaging and compelling standout performance. Tamzin Outhwaite is believable, vulnerable, witty, natural and relatable. Daniel Cerqueira is appropriately understated yet arrogant, humorous and convincing. Christopher Fairbank has the audience in his palm right from the start as an eccentric and loveable ‘dadda’. This quartet is harmonious and delivers flawlessly against the backdrop of wonderfully chaotic, eclectic yet simple staging and production that enable the audience to become intimate with the characters. An excellent performance - firmly rooted in the sixties, enhanced by a bit of rizzle and kick from Jordan Stephens. A must see! ... Read more
