Nutcracker

An exciting new take
Why see Nutcracker?
NUTCRACKER REARRANGED FOR JAZZ
This Christmas witness the Nutcracker as you've never seen it before, at the special purpose-built Tuff Nut Jazz Club in the Southbank Centre! The classic Tchaikovsky score is re-arranged into a contemporary jazz performance by a live band, with the award winning McOnie Company performing an expertly choreographed dance production breathing new life into this age old classic. With the music arranged by jazz saxophonist and leader of the Mercury Award-nominated SEED Ensemble Cassie Kinoshi, this new production will surely push the boundaries as much as the original did in 1892.
What is the story?
First seen as a short story published in 1816 by E.T.A Hoffmann, The Nutcracker was adapted by Tchaikovsky and choreographer Marcus Petipa for the stage in 1892 and went on to receive its North American premiere back in 1944 with the San Francisco Ballet. Since then, it has become a quintessential family event, with productions numbering in the 100s from ballet companies all over the country from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve!
